Ex-minister Jahur Ahmed Chowdhury’s wife Jahanara passes away
Chattogram, April 30, 2019 (BSS) – Jahanara Begum, wife of former minister
Jahur Ahmed Chowdhury and mother of Chattogram city Awami League (AL) Acting
President Mahtabuddin Chowdhury, died of old age complications at a city
private hospital this morning.
She was 95, family sources said.
Jahanara who witnessed different political upheaval since seventies left
behind her three sons and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her
death.
Her eldest son Sayed Saifuddin Khaled Chowdhury embraced martyrdom during
the liberation war in 1971.
Her husband Jahur Ahmed Chowdhury was a close associate of Bangabandhu who
inducted him to his cabinet. Chowdhury served as cabinet member in four
ministries including labour and health for different period during post
independent time
The death of Jahanara Begum cast a pall of gloom in political and
sociocultural arena.
Hundreds of people from all walks of life thronged her city’s Paltan road
residence to have a last glimpse and pay homage to her.
Her namaz-e-janaza will be held after Asr prayer today at Jamiutul Falah
Complex.
