SANGSAD BHABAN, April 29, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council Bill, 2019 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad today aiming to bring all the activities of Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council into a legal frame.

Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed moved the bill in the House, which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia in the chair.

Piloting the bill, the minister said the enactment of the law would expedite and consolidate the activities of the Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council. The proposed law would replace the existing resolution as the organisation is now being operated with the resolution, he added.

The proposed law suggests establishment of Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council while its headquarters will be located in Dhaka.

It inserts provisions of an 84-member governing body of the council, formation of a 19-member executive committee and appointment of staff in the council.

Earlier, Jatiya party lawmakers Pir Fazlur Rahman and Rowshan Ara Mannan and Gonoforum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan came up with amendment proposals on the bill, but their proposals were rejected by voice votes.
