Bazar Monitoring Committee inspects Rangpur markets

RANGPUR, April 29, 2019 (BSS) – The Bazar Monitoring Committee today inspected retailer shops at Rangpur City Market to maintain stable prices and standard of quality of essential commodities during the holy month of Ramadan.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Shukria Pervin led the Bazar
Monitoring Committee of the district administration and inspected kitchen and rocery shops at Rangpur City Market as the process will continue in other markets.

The ADM inspected different retailer shops, talked to common consumers, retailers and traders on prices of essential commodities and ordered to install price list boards and asked the traders for selling foodstuffs strictly following displayed price lists.

She categorically instructed retailers and traders for ensuring smooth business of pure foodstuffs ensuring accurate weight without chemicals, formalin and colours and prohibited sales of rotten and uneatable foods in the markets, open places and footpaths.

“If the given directions and instructions were not followed properly, the responsible traders and retailers shall face stern legal actions, including punishments and fines, for violation of the laws concerned,” Pervin said.

The Bazar Monitoring Committee will also visit Mini Bazar, Nababganj
Bazar, Station Bazar, Lalbag Bazar, Rangpur Rail Station and other places during the holy month of Ramadan to ensure supply of safe and hygienic foods and take steps for saving the common passengers from harassment of ticket brokers and black marketers.

During the inspection activities, the ADM said traders would ensure
reasonable price of essentials and supply pure, dust-free Iftari items and foodstuffs and smooth supply of formalin-free fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and other goods in local markets.

“The district administration will also conduct mobile courts, monitor price lists and penalise those traders for selling essential commodities at higher prices than mentioned in price lists and for supplying or selling adulterate foodstuffs,” the ADM added.

Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department fsana Pervin, District sanitary Inspector Mahbubur Rahman, President of Rangpur City Bazar Traders’ Association Mostafa Kamal, fruits trader Md Shipan and meat trader Md Alauddin and business community leaders were present.
