Facilities for EU investors to be ensured: Tipu

DHAKA, April 28, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said required services along with removal of other barriers for the countries of European Union (EU) would be ensured to boost investment and trade.

“Ministries and departments concerned would be given a specific timeframe to ensure required services for investment,” said the minister while briefing the media after the EU-Bangladesh Business Climate Dialogue at ministry’s conference room.

Tipu Munshi said both the parties discussed amicably on ease of doing business, facilities in economic zones, double taxation, one stop service, investment and other issues. “But, the issue we emphasized most was taking quick decision to solve any problem as time consumption harms business,” he added.

Mentioning that Bangladesh wants to go ahead with a timeframe, the minister said “working groups would set a specific timeframe to the concern department to ensure service and progress of any issue to remove the barriers.”

He said most of the issues would be registered a good progress before the next business climate dialogue.

Commerce Secretary Mofizul Islam and EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink chaired the dialogue jointly where envoys of EU countries and representatives of business entities took part.

Terming Bangladesh’s legal procedures for starting investment and business as complex, Rensje Teerink urged the government of the country to ease the procedures to ensure required investment to meet the goal of 2021.
