BIWTA to build two terminals at Pangaon, Ashuganj ports

DHAKA, April 28, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) will build two cargo terminals at Pangaon and Ashuganj ports aiming to transport fertilizer, wheat, maize, cement and other goods in river routes smoothly.

This information came up at a workshop on the study report regarding the construction of two cargo terminals for Pangaon and Ashuganj ports at BRAC center in city’s Mohakhali area today, an official release said.

Financed by the World Bank, BIWTA will implement the construction work of the terminals under Bangladesh Regional Waterway Transport Project 1, it added.

The consulting firm- Development Design Consultants Ltd (DDC)- has already formulated a master plan to this end, it added.

The workshop was organized by the shipping ministry while shipping ministry additional secretary Bhola Nath Dey inaugurated it.

With BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mahbub Ul Islam in the chair, the workshop was addressed, among others, by DDC team leader Subhasis Sen, World Bank Task Team leader Rajesh Rohatgi and project director Mahmud Hasan Selim.

Stakeholders of different organizations also participated in the workshop.
