Taskin, Farhad included in Tigers’ squad for Ireland tri-series

DHAKA, April 28, 2019 (BSS)-The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has added
pace bowler Taskin Ahmed and medium-pace-bowling all-rounder Farhad Reza to
the squad for the tri-nation series in Ireland, which begins on May 5.

The duo’s inclusion swelled the squad to 19 as the selectors’ earlier
added off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and off-spinning all-rounder Yasir Rabbi to
the 15-member provisional World Cup squad.

Taskin’s selection comes in the wake of the injury of Mustafizur Rahman
and Rubel Hossain, who is yet to recover fully. Shafiul Islam was also in
consideration but Taskin got the nod because of having raw pace.

“We are still not sure when Mustafizur Rahman can bowl with full rhythm.
Therefore we were mulling a back up pacer. Since Taskin proves his fitness,
we had no reservation to include him in the squad,” chief selector Minhajul
Abedin Nannu said.

Farhad’s selection came as a surprise, given that he hasn’t been part of
the senior side since the 2014 World T20, and last played an ODI in 2011.

Farhad however was superb in the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League
in which he claimed highest 38 wickets in 16 matches in addition to playing
some significant knocks lower down the order with willow. He is considered as
a back-up alternative for Mohammad Saifuddin, who has a tennis elbow problem.

Bangladesh will play their first match in tri-nation series on May 7
when they take on West Indies.

Bangladesh squad for Ireland tri-series: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain),
Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim (wicket-keeper),
Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan (vice-captain), Mohammad Mithun, Sabbir Rahman,
Mosaddek Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Rubel Hossain,
Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Jayed, Nayeem Hasan, Yasir Ali, Taskin Ahmed, Farhad
Reza.
