NEW DELHI, April 28, 2019 (BSS) – Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to re-launch its Dhaka-Delhi direct flight operations next month after five years eying to earn handsome revenues as India’s private Jet airways halted its flight operations between the two capitals.
“We are resuming the Dhaka-Delhi flight on May on May 13 which was stopped in 2014,” operations manager of the state-run airlines Mohammad Zahidul Islam told BSS in the Indian capital.
He added: “We are expecting our flights in the route to draw a huge number of passengers as a huge number of people cutting across their professional lines regularly travel in the route for different reasons including medical treatment.”
Biman had stopped the flight operation in the route in September, 2014 citing aircraft shortage in its fleet while commercial reasons were also thought to have prompted the national airlines to take the decision.
Islam said Biman was set to Biman will get it landing permission in Delhi by the end of this week and would initially operate three flights weekly in its Dhaka-Delhi route with its 162-seat Boeing 737-800 on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
“After a few days we will plan to operate in the route four days in a week,” Biman’s public relations manager Shakil Miraj told BSS in Dhaka.
According to the schedule, the Biman flight will depart Dhaka at 3.00 pm and arrive in Delhi at 5.20 pm and during the reverse journey it will depart Delhi at 6.20 pm and arrive in Dhaka at 9.20 pm.
Biman officials said the round-trip fare in the route would be approximately Taka 25,000 in Economic Class and Taka 65,000 in Business class, an amount which would be much lesser compared to Jet Airways, the only airways which until recently operated direct flights in the route.
India’s premier private aviation company Jet Airways grounded all of its 119 aircrafts and suspended all domestic and international operations recently due to “fund shortage”.
There was no any Dhaka-Delhi direct flight after the recent suspension of Jet Airways operations in all domestic and international routes forcing passenger to make a break journey halting in Kolkata for hours.
Airliners like Air India, Spice Jet and Indigo operate their Dhaka-Delhi flights via Kolkata.
