Gold carrier placed on 3-day remand over gold smuggling

DHAKA, April 27, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed one Erfanul Islam, 42, arrested on April 26 from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with 10 gold bars, on three-day remand.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman passed the order as police produced Erfan before the court and pleaded for 10-day remand.

Airport Armed Police Battalion members arrested Erfan from car parking area of domestic terminal at the airport as he tried to fled the scene after landing here from Sylhet.

In the primary interrogation, he confessed carrying gold bars in his rectum and police later managed to retreat those bars. Weighing 1.160 kg, the estimated cost of the seized gold bars is Taka 45 lakh.
