DHAKA, April 26, 2019 (BSS) – Like previous years, farmers of Barguna and
Patuakhali are happy with bumper watermelon production.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Officials of two districts said
21,682 hectares of land have been brought under watermelon cultivation in
Patuakhali district and 4,200 hectares of land in Barguna district.
The production target of watermelon has been fixed 10,000,90 tonnes in
Patuakhali while 1,00090 tonnes in Barguna, they said.
SM Badrul Alam, an official of Barguna DAE office, said watermelon
cultivation is gradually increasing in the district due to favorable
environment. Farmers are interested for watermelon cultivation as they are
getting bumper yield with good prices, he said.
Local farmers said watermelon cultivation has been profitable as they are
getting good production in the past several years.
