Suspected drug trader killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’
KUSHTIA, April 26, 2019 (BSS)- A suspected drug trader was killed in a
gunfight between two groups of drug traders and police at Bhadalia Sostipur
in Sadar upazila of the district early hours today.
The deceased was identified as Rafique Uddin, 35 resident of Baradi area in
the district town.
Tipped off, police went to the spot around 2am, where two group of drug
traders were exchanging bullet among them, said Nasir Uddin, officer-in-
charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station.
Sensing presence of the law enforcer, the criminals opened fire to police,
forcing them to fire back in ‘self-defense’.
After a brief exchange of gunfight, the criminals managed to flee the
scene.
Later, police found Rafique with bullet-hit injuries and took him to
Kushtia General Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Four policemen were injured during the gunfight.
Police said, one foreign made pistol and bullets were recovered from the
spot.
