Rhodes knowledge on English condition to benefit Bangladesh in WC

DHAKA, April 25, 2019 (BSS) – One of the main reasons to appoint Steve Rhodes as the head coach of Bangladesh last year was his expertise on English condition since the BCB wants to achieve a best result in the showcase event.

Being a English man, Rhodes have vast knowledge on English pitch as he played in several county sides during his playing life and also was the coach of Worcestershire. His knowledge is believed to be key in helping the side attain their expected result.

With the World Cup around the corner, Rhodes also looked to share his knowledge on English pitch with his charges.

“I think some of the advantages I may have, is my relationship with curators and coaches in some of the grounds and my own experience of coaching and playing in those grounds,” Rhodes said.

He however said it’s the players who finally would have to execute the plan in the ground and he can just give them tips about the nature of wicket and how it behave in certain times.

“They have funny shapes and on certain days, they behave differently. I know quite a lot of those things but it is up to the players to produce the goods with bat and ball in hand.

“England is not like Bangladesh. Here in Bangladesh you can predict the weather and how the season is going to be. In England, you can’t predict anything in the summer. It has been a hot week, but the prior two weeks were bad.

“Sometimes the wind comes in during the summer. It really is difficult to predict. Last summer was incredibly hot, but I can’t predict.”
