Tigers urged to be prepared to chase big target in WC

DHAKA, April 24, 2019 (BSS) – Over the years English condition changed its nature, especially in the ODI cricket, helping the team to put up gigantic scores on the board at regular basis.

In fact the highest two team totals in ODI history– 481 and 444-were scored at the England’s Nottingham. Hosts England were the record holders of those two totals.

Even though Test pitch remains traditional English-wicket where seam and swing remains in abundance, in white-ball cricket, the pitch remains ridiculously flat. Therefore chance is high that this World Cup in England will see a lot of big scores.

While it becomes now normal in modern cricket that the teams often piled up avalanche of runs, making 300 plus score a regular tendency, Bangladesh are yet to hone the art of scoring 300 plus at regular basis. Till date Bangladesh played 358 ODIs but were able to score 300 plus runs 13 times in the history with the highest remains 329-6 against Pakistan.

Considering those facts and the current situation of cricket, Bangladesh team’s senior cricketer Tamim Iqbal urged his colleagues to prepare for the big score in every World Cup match.

“We are not used to chasing 340-350 runs usually, but we also know that we will have to chase 280-300-320 runs in most of the games, so, we have to work it out, for this the five matches we will be playing in Ireland is very important,” Tamim said.

“The training sessions and plan execution is also very important. We have to be mentally prepared that we have to chase big targets; I think we have to bowl really well to keep the opposition under 300.”

“There can be some days in which we will bowl them out in 240-250 runs. But I think 300 is chase-able in England. We have to be prepared for that, if you see history we didn’t chase that type of target so often because normally we play in pitches where we don’t score 300 so often. So, I hope the plan we will be given and we have to execute that plan efficiently.”
