Eliminating malnutrition to attain SDGs underscored

RANGPUR, Apr 24, 2019 (BSS) – Proper selection and intake of nutritious foods are crucial to eliminate malnutrition of babies, children, adolescents, pregnant women, mothers to attain the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The observation came at a post-rally discussion organised by Chilmari Upazila Health Complex (UHC) at its conference room in Chilmari upazila town of Kurigram on Tuesday afternoon to begin observance of the National Nutrition Week- 2019.

The week is being observed aiming at creating mass public awareness about importance of common people to build a healthier nation.

With Chilmari Upazila Health and family Planning Officer Dr Md. Mahfuzar Rahman Sarker Mukul in the chair, Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md. Khaledur Rahman attended the discussion as the chief guest.

Upazila Livestock Officer Md. Rashedul Haque, Advocacy Officer of Terre Des Homage Shahinur Rahman, Upazila Coordinator of Sustained Opportunity for Nutrition Governance Project Aynul Haque and Nursing Supervisor Majibar Rahman addressed.

Dr Mukul said distribution of essential drugs and vitamins like de-worming tablets, iron, folic acid and calcium tablets to pregnant women and Calcium and vitamin D to aged people and Vitamin A campaigns have laudably enriched the nutrition sector.

The chief guest discussed the necessity of breastfeeding, selection and consumption of nutritious foodstuffs, including vegetables, to ensure nutrition of pregnant women, mothers and babies for attaining the SDGs on way to build a healthier nation.
