Presumed drug peddler killed in Turag gunfight
DHAKA, April 24, 2019 (BSS) – A suspected drug peddler was killed in a
gunfight between drug smuggling gang members and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)
in Diabari area under Turag police station on the outskirts of the city early
today, RAB said.
A team of RAB-1 conducted a drive in Diabari area at about 2:15 am
responding to a secret information about presence of drug dealers there,
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan told BSS this
morning.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug smugglers opened fire at
RAB personnel, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight between
them for a while, he said.
At one stage, one drug peddler identified him as Raja Alam, 45, an accused in
several criminal cases, was caught in the line of fire and lost his lives, he
added.
A stash of cannabis (ganja) and two foreign-made pistols with bullets were
recovered from the scene, the RAB official said.
RAB claimed that their two members were also injured during the incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Turag Police Station Nurul Muttakin said no
case was filled in this connection.
