Deal signed to hire consultant for Payra Port’s first terminal

Dhaka, April 23, 2019 (BSS) – The government today signed an agreement
with three Korean firms to appoint a consultant to build the first terminal
of Payra port by 2021.

The Payra Port Authority signed the joint agreement with the three Korean
companies at the Secretariat in the capital, a PID handout said.

The three companies are Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co Ltd,
Daeyong Engineering Company Limited, and Hareem Architect and Planners
Company Limited of South Korea.

Chairman of Payra Port Authority Commodore M Jahangir Alam, president of
Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting Co Ltd Jeong Laenoh, director of Daeyong
Engineering Company Limited Dae Jinkim and country director of Hareem
Architect and Planners Company Limited of South Korea Eun Sangjo signed the
deal on behalf of their respective sides in presence of Shipping Secretary Md
Abdus Samad.

The government has already taken a plan to build two terminals at Payra
port by 2021 and ensure 10.5 metre navigability in its channel. Under the
plan, a Tk 3,982 crore project has been taken to set up the first terminal
and other relevant facilities at Payra port by 2021.

Under the agreement, the consultants’ work of the project will be
completed by a single team with some sub-teams. The three Korean companies
will work as the main supervisor, while Bangladeshi company Symbiotic
Architect will work as a sub-supervisor.

The consultancy works have been divided into two phases – design and
supervision. The total cost of the deal is Tk 79.52 crore.

As per the agreement, the consultancy works will be completed within 36
months, while their works in design phase by six months and works in
supervision phase by 30 months.
