Speakers for creating awareness on autism

JOYPURHAT, April 23, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop today said people should be educated on autism for properly dealing with the autistic children.

Most of the parents of autistic children do not know how to deal with these special children, they told the workshop here. District civil surgeon office organized the workshop in the conference room of district administration on the occasion of the World Autism Awareness Day.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zakir Hossain, physicians, representatives from different government and non-government organizations, among others, addressed the workshop with acting civil surgeon Dr Md Rashed Mobareq in the chair.

Dr Rashed said autism is a neurodevelopment mental disorder of variable severity which causes disruption in communication and social interaction.

“Children with autism need special intervention and caring to unlock their hidden talent for making valuable contribution to the society. So they should be treated differently with very special facilities to help them grow up in a better environment,” he added.

Other speakers said people should be educated on autism so that children with autism are detected at an early stage to ensure a dignified life for them.
