Six students killing case lingering for 8yrs

DHAKA, April 21, 2019 (BSS) -With the passage of long eight years, the case
over killing six students in Aminbazar, Savar, on the night of Shab-e-Barat
in 2011, is still lingering as two investigation officers (IOs) are not
appearing before court to testify.

“My mother was waiting for justice, but she died five months earlier. Now I
am in doubt whether I will be able to see the justice in my lifetime for my
brother,” Eusuf Ali, brother of victim Ibrahim Khalil, told BSS.

Another victim Sheikh Mohammad Tipu’s mother Nazma Akter said her family is
very much upset over the lingering of the case for eight long years. He
wanted to know, “How long will we have to wait to get the justice?”

The case is now pending before court of Dhaka 2nd additional district and
sessions judge Faizunnesa, and the court was scheduled to hold hearing of the
case on April 28.

“The court has examined 52 out of 92 witnesses in the case. It is not being
able to wrap up the trial as the last two investigation officers are not
appearing before the court to testify,” public prosecutor Shakila Jesmin Mitu
said.

Mitu further added of the two remaining IOs, former additional
superintendent of police Sirajul Islam of CID has gone on retirement already.

“So we did not able to trace him at his former workplace. Court has issued
summons against him on three occasions. We have sent the summons to his
Pallabi home. After his testimony, the court will summon third and final IO
additional superintendant of police Sharif Uddin to testify and the case will
be wrapped up hereafter,” she added.

The six students were mercilessly beaten to death on July 17, 2011, in
Keblar Char area under village Baradeshi in Aminbazar, in suspicion of being
robbers.

After the brutal incident, the prime suspect and a local sand trader Abdul
Malek also lodged a case of robbery against the victims. The local police,
however, filed a case against 600 villagers for their involvement in the
brutal killing.

The six victims were Maple Leaf student Shams Rahim Shamim, 18, Mirpur
Bangla College student Touhidur Rahman Palash, 20, Ibrahim Khalil, 21, of the
same college, HSC student Kamruzzaman Kanto, 16, Tejgaon College student Tipu
