Khasru orders stopping advance bills to project contractors

DHAKA, April 18, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru today ordered the project directors to insert a condition in tender agreements to stop paying advance bills to the contractors and blacklisting those who would fail for the third time to complete projects in time.

He came up with the directive at a review meeting at the Secretariat on the progress of ongoing 22 projects of fisheries sub-sector in the last nine months from July 2018 to March 2019, said a press release.

In the meeting, Khasru expressed dissatisfaction over low quality of work, failure of the contractors in completing projects within the stipulated time as per the agreement and irregularities in the project implementation.

The leased public lands are often being grabbed due to poor and usual agreements, he said, adding it would be stopped.

The meeting was informed that Taka 196 crore out of a total allocation of Taka 413.8 crore was spent in 22 projects in the last nine months of fiscal 2018-19.

The 22 projects include 14 of the Department of Fisheries, five of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, two of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation and one of e-service sector.
