Uttara seals second straight victory in DPL relegation league
DHAKA, April 18, 2019 (BSS)- Medium pacer Abdur Rashid claimed his career-best 5-18 for Uttara Sporting Club to earn a nerve wrecking one-wicket victory over BKSP in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) relegation play-off at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah today.
This was their second straight victory in the relegation league after crushing Brothers Union by 188 runs in the first match. The two straight victories brightened their possibility to remain in the Dhaka Premier League.
Electing to bat first, BKSP were bowled out for paltry 144 in 49.4 overs after facing devastating bowling from Rashid. While chasing a meager target, Uttara to fumbled early in their chase however recovered from the initial collapse to just scrape past required target scoring 147-9 in 39.5 overs.
Uttara’s Indian recruit Manan Sharma was the highest scorer for the side with 52. No. 9 batsman Abdur Gaffer made 21 and was key player in guiding Uttara to their cherished destination. Minhajul Abedin was the other notable scorer with 17.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib scalped 4-36 for BKSP to give the side a ray of hope to win the match but as their rival was chasing a paltry total, they scamper home. Hasan Murad and Shamim Hossain picked up two wickets apiece.
Aminul Islam was the highest scorer for BKSP with 59. Captain Akbar Ali scored 26 and Sadman Rahman made 25 to help the side propel past 100, which looked unlikely at one stage.
