Rubel aims to be top five wicket-takers in WC

DHAKA, April 17, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel Hossain aims to claim a spot in the top five wicket-taker in the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in England, stating that he would leave no stone unturned to make his dream true.

The pace spearhead was the consistent performer of Bangladesh in the last two World Cups, snaring 13 wickets in 12 matches. In the last World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, he claimed eight wickets in six matches with the best of 4-53 against England, a performance that helped Bangladesh beat England and seal the quarterfinal spot for the first time in any global tournament.

However despite some memorable performances in the last World Cup, Rubel was not amongst the top 10 bowling chart and even was not the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh. Taskin Ahmed was the best bowler for Bangladesh with nine wickets in six matches in the last World Cup. This time around, Rubel eyes for a big accolade as he believes that his experience of playing two World Cups would be instrumental in realizing the dream.

“If I remain fit and play, this will be my third World Cup. So in that sense I am experienced enough and my responsibility is bigger than others,” Rubel said here today.

“Even I have been playing International cricket for long, so definitely I have a dream to be the top five wicket-takers in this World Cup. This is my dream and at any cost I will try to make it true.”

The format of this World Cup gives Bangladesh an opportunity to play nine matches, a thing that Rubel termed as an opportunity to claim the spot in the top five bowling chart.

“Since we will play nine matches against all big teams, there is good opportunity (to be in top five wicket-takers list). If I can help my team win against those big teams, it will be really amazing for me.”

Rubel revealed that he would take the inspiration from his good spells in the last two World Cups. “I have played some good matches in the last two World Cups. I will try to take the inspiration from those matches to charge myself.”
