Speaker for bringing farmers to economic mainstream

RANGPUR, Apr 16, 2019 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP, today said farmers should be brought in the mainstream of the economy to ensure inclusive economy.

Recalling the contribution of farmers in making Bangladesh self-reliant in food she said, “Bangladesh is now self-reliant in food and the farmers are the main contributor to this achievement.”

Speaker said this while distributing free seed and fertilisers among small and marginal farmers of her Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) constituency under the government’s Aus incentive programme.

Upazila administration and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) arranged the function at at Pirganj upazila parisahd auditorium.

The Speaker urged the agriculture scientists and researchers to evolve newer climate resilient and stress tolerant crop varieties through conducting research for augmentation of food production.

The present government has taken various schemes for farmers like opening of bank account at Tk 10 and IT facilities and providing all incentives through banking channels ensuring compete transparency and accountability in the processes.

Later, the Speaker inaugurated training course on sewing machine, distributed certificates and exchanged views with successful beneficiaries of different government projects.

Presided over by Pirganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer TM Momin, Pirganj municipal Mayor Abu Saleh Md. Tazimul Islam Shamim, Chairman of Pirganj upazila Noor Mohammad Mondal, Vice-chairman Shafiur Rahman Mandal Milon attended the function.
