JS body for establishing textile research institute

DHAKA, April 16, 2019 (BSS) – The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Textiles and Jute today recommended to set up a textile research institute to ensure adequate development in the textile sector.

The recommendation was made at the second meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Textiles and Jute here, said a press release of the Parliament Secretariat today.

The meeting was presided over by committee chairman Mirza Azam. Members of the committee – Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Md. Israfil Alam, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Shaheen Aktar, Abdul Momin Mondol and Khadijatul Anowar were also present, at the meeting.

An elaborate discussion on – 16 ongoing and 16 under implementation development projects of the ministry was held at the meeting. The committee also made recommendations to hold discussions with the concerned stakeholders and provide optimum services to make the ‘Textile Act 2018’ effective.

The meeting was informed that the ministry has taken necessary measures to pay due wages of the workers to remove any dissatisfaction among them, the release added.

It was also stated that a committee was formed by the Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute to expedite the land acquisition process for setting up “Sheikh Hasina Tant Polli” (first phase) project in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district and “Sheikh Hasina Textile College.

Both the projects will be implemented under the supervision of Bangladesh Army with the suggestions of the standing committee.

Officials of the Textiles and Jute Ministry, DG of Textile Department, BJMC, BTMC, Bangladesh Tant Board and Jatiya Sangsad were present, at the meeting.
