Govt declares public holiday in Mujibnagar tomorrow

MEHERPUR, April 16, 2019 (BSS) – The government has announced a public holiday in Mujibnagar of Meherpur district for the first time tomorrow (April 17) on the occasion of the historic Mujibnagar Day.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain declared the public holiday at a press conference held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here today.

About the preparation to observe the Mujibnagar Day, he said all-out preparation have been taken to observe the day.

“A total of 150 fireworks will be displayed here in the evening tomorrow after a cultural function,” Farhad said.

Deputy Commissioner of Meherpur Md Ataul Gani, superintendent of police Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masudul Alam were present at the press conference.

The nation is set to observe the historic Mujibnagar Day tomorrow marking the oath-taking ceremony of the country’s first government during the Liberation War in 1971.

On April 17, 1971, the tiny mango grove-covered village in Baidyanathtala witnessed the ceremonial formation of the provisional government of Bangladesh and millions of people listened to the announcement of the formation of the sovereign government over radio.
