Man gets life term for raping schoolgirl in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Apr 16, 2019 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced one person to life term rigorous imprisonment for raping a schoolgirl.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Md Rokunuzzaman handed down the sentence in a crowded courtroom in presence of the convict.

The court simultaneously fined the convict Taka one-lakh and ordered to pay the amount to the victim.

According to the prosecution convicted Zakirul Islam Milon, son of Ansar Ali of village Pathanpara in Ramnathpur union of Badarganj upazila in Rangpur district violated the girl on July 4, 2005.

The convict tactfully called a schoolgirl, daughter of his neighbour to his house in the village on July 4, 2005, ‘requesting’ her to take care of his ailing mother suffering from fever.

A family member of the victim filed a rape case against Zakirul in this connection with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 of Rangpur after nine days of the incident.

After examining 15 witnesses of the case during the long hearing period, the court found Zakirul guilty and pronounced the verdict today.

Talking to local reporters, Special Public Prosecutor of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 of Rangpur Advocate Jahangir Hossain Tuhin expressed satisfaction over the verdict.

Senior lawyers Advocate Rashid Chowdhury and Advocate Emdadul Haque defended the accused side and did not make any comment on the verdict.
