Bus driver arrested for assaulting CU female students
CHATTOGRAM, April 13 (BSS) – Kotwali thana Police arrested a bus driver
on Friday night on charge of assaulting a female student of Chattogram
University (CU) when she was returning to the city from the campus on
Thursday.
Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali thana said police also
detained the bus no Chatto Metro-J-11-1120 from Oxygen area in the city.
Based on information a team of Kotwali thana arrested the bus driver
Biplob Debnath from city Oxygen crossing around 1.20 am, Mohsin said.
“We are trying to arrest the helper of the bus who also accomplice the
driver during the assault,” he added.
The female CU student boarded the New Market-bound bus plying on route
no. 3 from Gate-1 of the university around 3 pm on Thursday.
When the bus reached near city’s Riazuddin Bazar area, all the
passengers got off the vehicle but she did not as it was her penultimate
stoppage, she said. Taking the advantage of an empty bus, the driver turned
right and deviated from the route, she added.
She told them to stop immediately, but the helper tried to strangle her
with her scarf.
She jumped off the moving bus to save herself on face of assaulting. She
filed a case with Kotwali thana on Thursday night, accusing two unidentified
transport workers in this regard.
