DHAKA, April 12, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed a father-son duo
on three days remand in a case lodged over smuggling of 12 gold bars of Taka
1.49 crore and 80 rare turtles.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Devbrata Biswas passed the order as police
produced MA Khalek and his son Tajul Islam before the court and pleaded for
10-day remand.

A joint team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID)
and Dhaka Customs House detained the duo at Hazrat Shahjalal International
Airport yesterday.

“We detained them red handed as MA Khalek, who had just landed here from
Bangkok and was trying to hand over something wrapped in black scochtep to
his son Tajul Islam waiting at gate number 2 in the Green Channel area. We
found the gold bars after opening the tape and found the turtles in Khalek’s
luggage,” CIID director general Dr Shahidul Islam told BSS.

The CIID boss said estimated cost of the gold bars is Taka 1.49 crore.

Later they were handed over to Airport Police Station and a case was lodged
in this regard.
