PIB trains Rangpur journalists on children, women issues

RANGPUR, April, 11, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop here underlined the importance on capacity building of media personnel so that they can play more proactive role in promoting the issue of children and women.

The Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) organised the training workshop for journalists of print and electronic media in Rangpur. A total of 28 journalists took part in the two-day workshop on ‘Children and Women Development Issues’ at Rangpur Press Club.

Professor Pradip Kumar Panday of Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Rajshahi University, Associate Professor of Jagannath University Rahat Minhaz and Senior Trainer of PIB Rafiza Rahman conducted different sessions of the workshop as resource persons. President of Rangpur Press Club Sadrul Alam Dulu presided over the inaugural and closing sessions of the workshop.

During the working sessions the participants were given training on the development issues of women and children, in-depth and follow-up reporting, charters of children and women rights, women and children’s rights on land properties, reporting and feature writing on success stories of children and women, ethics of presenting women and children in social media, online journalism, information collection methods and sources, reporting language, gender sensitivity and other related issues.

Speakers in the concluding function urged the participants for properly utilizing the knowledge acquired from the workshop to pursue objective journalism on children and women development issues.

In his concluding speech, Sadrul Alam Dulu stressed the need for objective media reporting on children and women issues to establish equal rights of women, accelerate national advancement of women and eliminate gender discrimination from the society.

Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Enamul Habib inaugurated the workshop on Wednesday.
