Prime Bank finish DPL group phase on winning note

DHAKA, April 11, 2019 (BSS)- Prime Bank Cricket Club stay on course to seal a comfortable 34-run win over Gazi Group Cricketers and ended the group phase of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) with a winning note at BKSP-4 ground today.

After losing to Mohammedan by 133 runs by D/L method in the previous game, the victory was a confidence-booster for Prime Bank ahead of the Super League phase.

However Gazi Group Cricketers performed poorly, being all out to 167 in 45.2 overs after Prime Bank recovered from a 92-6 to put up 201-9 in 50-over allocation. Nayeem Hasan was key figure in the victory with all-round performance as he scored 34 and took 2-39.

Nayeem Hasan and Ariful Haque added 57-run for the seventh wicket stand to revive Prime Bank innings after which Monir Hossain hit an unbeaten 25 to help the side propel past 200, which looked extremely unlikely at one phase.

Ariful Haque also struck 34 runs. Their Indian recruit Sudeep Chatterjee was the other notable scorer with 21.

Gazi Group’s off-spinner Sanjit Saha returned figures of 3-30 while Nasum Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam picked up two wickets apiece.

Gazi were reduced to 43-2 but opener Myshukur Rahman and Shamsur Rahman kept the side on course of a victory. Nayeem Hasan broke through with the wicket of Shamsur for 27 to trigger a sensational collapse.

Myshukur held one end and scored 74 before a hamstring injury forced him to retire with Gazi at 161-7. After he left the ground, Gazi could add only six runs before being all out to concede a defeat.
