Hasan urges media to project development events

DHAKA, April 10, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today urged mass media to project success stories of development to supplement the efforts of the government for building an economically advanced country.

“The country has witnessed a considerable progress as the present government has implemented many development programmes in the past 10 years,” he told at a meeting of Bangladesh Newspapers Editors and Publishers Parishad in the conference room of the Information Ministry here.

Referring to remarks of former President of USA Barack Obama regarding outstanding development of Bangladesh while visiting Kenya, his father’s home country, Hasan said that he (Obama) urged African countries including Kenya to follow Bangladesh’s advancement on development.

Many world leaders are lauding Bangladesh for its remarkable advancements in different socio-economic indicators achieved in the past ten years, the information said adding Bangladesh has exceeded many key indicators compared to India and Pakistan.

So, Bangladesh is being regarded as a role model of development for many developing nations, he added.

Hasan said the government has given around 44 licenses to private TV channels. Of those, around 33 channels are now running.

“There are nearly 1500 newspapers in the country and a large number of online news portals are running,” he said adding social media has brought a revolutionary change in the society.

Alongside the constructive criticism of the government, the minister said, all forms of media should play a positive role in building a developed country.
