Family to be allowed to stay with Tigers during WC
DHAKA, April 10, 2019 (BSS)- The family of national cricketers can stay with them during the World Cup in England and Wales, confirmed BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan.
The cricket’s biggest extravaganza will be going on from May 30-July 14 this year. Board Cricket Control for India (BCCI) however allowed the family of the cricketers and support staffs for first two week after the beginning of the World Cup.
But Bangladesh didn’t give such sort of restriction, Akram said here today. “During our time, our family was not allowed to stay with us in such long tournament because the team management was strict in this matter,” Akram said.
“But we didn’t set such rules. Last time in 2015 World Cup in Australia-New Zealand, players were allowed to take their family with them. There is no problem in it,” he added.
Bangladesh will leave the country for Ireland to play a Tri-nation series in the first week of May after which they will go to England straightway. There will be special camp for Bangladesh to cope with the condition of England. Considering a hectic schedule, some cricketers reportedly wanted to spend time with the family, skipping the special camp.
Akram said BCB will consider if the players seek some time-off to spend with the family.
“I heard cricketers talked about this issue (time off). But they didn’t apply anything officially. We also know the tour in Ireland and World Cup is very long. In between they want four days off. It’s good to spend time with the family. I hope BCB definitely will consider the matter,” Akram informed.
The World Cup team of Bangladesh is expected to be announced on April 18. The camp for the World Cup will begin on April 22 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Echoing the version of chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu, Akram also said they are concerned over the mediocre performance of the national players in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Like Minhajul, he also hoped that the national players will get their rhythm back during the Super League phase.
“The players couldn’t perform as per our expectation. It’s a big problem for us if they can’t perform well. We are hopeful that they will get back to the form.”
