BIWTA demolishes 29 illegal structures on Turag banks
DHAKA, April 9, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority
(BIWTA) today demolished 29 illegal structures built on the banks of Turag
River in Savar.
Following the order of the Shipping Ministry, the BIWTA conducted the
drive aimed at freeing the bank of Turag river from illegal encroachment,
said a press release here today.
The demolished structures include two one-storied buildings, 11
partially constructed houses, 4 boundary walls, 10 tin-shed houses and two
parks located at Birulia.
During the drive, around two acres of land were freed from encroachment
and Taka 1 lakh was fined. The BIWTA has also auctioned products worth Taka
1.18 crore, the release added.
BIWTA will resume the drive tomorrow at 9am at the banks of Turag river.
