ITU lauds Bangladesh for unprecedented uplift

DHAKA, April 9, 2019 (BSS) – International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary General Houlin Zhao has praised Bangladesh for attaining unprecedented development, saying it is now a role model of development for different countries in the world.

“I would suggest the leaders participating in the WSIS forum follow Bangladesh for its unprecedented development,” he told Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar during a view exchange meeting at ITU headquarters.

The Bangladesh minister is participating is in Geneva participating in the five-day “World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum-2019” that began on April 8, said a ministry release today.

The WSIS forum’s theme is “Information and Communication Technology for attaining Sustainable Development”.

Forum Chairperson Mustafa Jabbar and Co-Chairperson Houlin Zhao jointly inaugurated the event organized by the ITU, UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD.

More than 3,000 representatives including over 100 ministers of 150 countries are taking part in the WSIS forum which would conclude on April 12.

Houlin Zhao said ITU highly values the Chairmanship of Bangladesh at WSIS Forum. During the meeting, Jabbar and Zhao discussed elaborately different aspects of the forum as well as future of the global telecommunication and information technology.

Members of Bangladesh delegation, including ICT Division Secretary N M Ziaul Alam, UN Permanent Representative and Bangladesh Ambassador to Switzerland Shameem Ahsan and BTRC Chairman Md Jahurul Haque were present.
