DHAKA, April 09, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered chairman of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) to immediately evict illegal structures built along Karnaphuli river and submit a report on this within 30 days.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order after holding a hearing on writ petition filed in this regard.
“Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) had filed the writ as the eviction drive is no longer taking place. The court after hearing, asked CPA to evict illegal structures and submit a report within 30 days. It also set May 19 to pass further order in this regard,” HRPB counsel Manjil Morshad said.
HRPB had earlier filed another writ in this regard. Following that writ, the HC also had issued a rule and that rule was declared absolute later. Recently the authorities concerned started eviction drive as per the order, but after a couple of days, it stopped.
