KCC takes Tk 1,431cr project to make Khulna as green city

KHULNA, APRIL 9, 2019 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will soon begin a mega project involving Taka 1,431.35 crore with a view to improving roads and drainage system as well as making the city free from water logging.

Talking to BSS, Mayor of KCC Talukder Abdul Khaleque said, “As per my election manifesto, I asked KCC engineers concerned to send a mega project proposal to the LGED ministry after my victory.”

“We have already appointed a consultant and Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) is requested to make a design for the entire project,” he said.

KCC is working to make Khulna a green, clean and modern digital city, said the mayor, adding that city dwellers would be made free from the curse of long-standing water logging, he added.

The four-year long project is expected to end in June, 2022, said an official of KCC.

The Executive Committee of Economic Council (ECNEC) approved Taka 823.79 crore for removing water logging while Taka 607.56 crore for development of roads and drainage management in the city in October, 2018.

A total of Taka 4.89 crore has been allocated in last month for the first phase works of roads and drainage development, the official said.

“KCC has already sent a proposal to the ministry concerned seeking Tk 90 crore before June this year,” he said.

The project titled “Remove of Water Logging and Development of Roads and Drainage Management” was adopted On May 2018, in order to prompt the city’s major need based sectors including water logging free city and development of roads and drainage system, said Liakat Ali Khan, executive engineer of KCC.

Tender for 10 works involving Taka 4.89 crore under the project will be called through “LTM’ system on April 17 next, he added.
