DHAKA, April 07, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today laid emphasis on implementation of law, awareness and education to reduce occurrence of road accidents in the country.

“We will need combined efforts in this regard….we will have to change our mindset and also increase awareness,” he said.

The minister said these while addressing a seminar titled “Safe Road: Implementation of Law and Mass Awareness” as the chief guest at National Press Club here this afternoon.

Organised by Jago Bangla Foundation, the seminar was presided over by journalist and poet Nasir Ahmed, and addressed by State Minister for Religious Affairs Alhaj Advocate Sheikh Md Abdullah, World University of Bangladesh Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Mannan Choudhury, BRTA chairman Farid Ahmed Bhuiyan and journalist Ajay Das Gupta.

“It is unfortunate that in spite of so much development done by this government, it was not possible to make our roads and highways totally safe. Many people have lost their lives and still losing their lives there. Many promising young lives are being ended under the wheels of vehicles,” the law minister said.

Anisul Huq said safe road is expected by all, but only law is not sufficient to ensure safety on roads.

“We have not been able to see success in many cases in spite of availability of law. The reason behind that is we would not be able to build a safe transport system by only formulating act as a healthy culture of following law and awareness of people concerned are necessary to ensure safety on roads,” he added.
