DHAKA, April 6, 2019 (BSS) – Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said the old buildings in the Old Dhaka will be replaced by new ones under a redevelopment plan.

“It has been impossible to do something new overnight demolishing the unplanned buildings in the Old Dhaka. We have taken a redevelopment plan there. After demolishing the old buildings, we will construct new environment-friendly and quality buildings there complying with the building code,” he said.

The minister came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion titled ‘Government’s responsibility and people’s duty on constructing buildings’ organized by Dhaka Utility Reporters’ Association (DURA) at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) here.

Participation of all, including city corporations, Fire Service and Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, is a prerequisite for ensuring construction of quality buildings, Rezaul said, adding that Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) should monitor whether any building is constructed violating the approved design.

DURA president Mashiur Rahman Khan presided over the discussion while its vice-president Shafiqul Islam Shamim, general secretary Tofazzal Hossain and treasurer Ruhul Amin were present, among others.
