Teams gear up to seal DPL super league spot

DHAKA, April 6, 2019 (BSS)-The 10th round, the penultimate round of the group phase of Dhaka Premier League (DPL) starts tomorrow at different venues across the city with the team gearing up to seal their super league spot.

Top six teams in the point table will move into the elite phase, where the points of the group phase, consisted with 11 rounds, will be carried. However, so far three teams – Abahani Limited, Legends of Rupganj and Prime Bank Cricket Club confirmed their spot, leaving the three spots up for grab.

Abahani Limited and Rupganj have identical 16 points while Prime Bank collected 14 points after the ninth round of the league.

Prime Doleshwar with 12 points are in the advantageous position to seal the super league spot as the fourth team. And they can confirm it tomorrow when they will take on Uttara Sporting Club at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club will face off BKSP in their day’s other match at BSKP-4 ground.

Uttara are languishing at the bottom table with four points and a victory is much needed for them to prevent them from being relegated.

Khelaghar Samaj Kallayan Samity and Brothers Union also have four points like Uttara but they remain second and third to bottom table respectively by virtue of net-run-rate.

The last three teams will play relegation league amongst which the bottom two teams will be relegated to the First Division Cricket. BKSP with five points are also in danger to be relegated.

The other three matches of the 10th round, the penultimate round of the group phase, will be held on Monday. Those three matches will also be crucial as most of the teams will give at a shot for the super league spot.

Gazi Group Cricketers will lock horns with Shinepukur Cricket Club at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday while Mohammedan take on Prime Bank at BKSP and Khelaghar will battle with Brothers Union at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Prime Doleshwar are in fourth spot and looked set to seal the super league spot, considering their form and their opponent. But for the rest of the two spots, four teams-Shinepukur Cricket Club, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Gazi Group Cricketers and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club-are in equally good position.

Shinepukur have nine points from nine matches while the rest of three teams have eight points from nine matches. With two rounds of the league still left, competition to grab the last two spots is expected to go down the wire.

In this sense, a victory in 10th round will give every team an upper-hand before they start the last round of the league, which is scheduled to be held on April 10 and 11.
