JS committee for increasing climate change fund

DHAKA, APRIL 4, 2019 (BSS) – The parliamentary standing committee for
Environment and Forests Ministry has recommended the ministries concerned to
take necessary steps to increase the allocation of Bangladesh’s climate
change fund to Taka 700 crore in the next fiscal.

The committee also urged the Forest ministry to take necessary steps for
sending letters to Finance ministry for increasing allotment of Bangladesh
Climate Change Trust Fund to Taka 700 crore for the next fiscal year, said a
press release.

The committee also recommended the ministry to make proper arrangements
to get back the deposited money of the climate fund from Farmers Bank (now
Padma Bank) as soon as possible.

The enforcement section of the Environment Department was recommended to
strengthen their activities against the usage of banned polythene and not to
provide clearance certificates to the organisations which import polythene-
wastage for recycling, the release said.

Ministry’s suggestion for presenting ‘Green Budget’ in the upcoming
budget and development on

the ‘Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kiln Establishment (Control)
(Amendment) Bill, 2019’ will be held in the next session of the committee.

Presided over by the chairman of the committee Saber Hossain Chowdhury,
members of the committee Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md
Shahab Uddin, deputy minister Habibun Nahar, Md Rezaul Karim and Khodeja
Nasrin Aktar, among others, were present, the release added.
