I will never strop dreaming to play for national team: Jahurul

DHAKA, April 4, 2019 (BSS)- Abahani’s inform opener Jahurul Islam said that he would never stop dreaming to make the cut in the national fold till the last day of his career, despite knowing that his wrist injury made a permanent scare, preventing him from unleashing some shots from his repertoire.

Jahurul, popularly known as Omee in the cricketer fraternity played seven Tests, 14 ODIs and three T20 Internationals for Bangladesh but couldn’t cement his place in the side permanently due to injury at various point of his career.

Almost all players are bound to be injured in their career but for Jahurul it was curse as he unfortunately or coincidently fell to injury when he was going through a good phase of his career. It’s a thing for this he rued.

“Whenever I pass good time somehow I get injured at certain point during that phase,” he said today after helping Abahani win an important Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game against Prime Doleshwar.

“I was performing well in BCL but my wrist was broken nine days before the BPL. Later due to wrong medical assessment I played four matches and it made an adverse impact. I found out that I still had fracture in my hand and so I had to opt for plaster and opened it[ plaster] only nine days before the DPL.”

The wrong treatment on his wrist made a permanent scar on him as he had to limit his shot range, revealed Jahurul. But he said that wouldn’t affect him psychologically as he found a way to make runs despite the limitations.

He explained that his temperament is the way with which he overcame his shot limitations. He had already scored 522 runs in nine DPL matches to top the batting chart at this moment and it was the testament that his new found way worked well.

“I was not thinking of performing in the league rather I was busy working on my basics. I cannot lose temperament because my shots are limited due to the injury that I sustained in my wrist,” Jahurul said.

Despite that he is reluctant to give up the hopes to make the cut in the national fold at some point of his career again.

“I will keep dreaming of playing in the national team till the last day of my career. I think those who are playing at the top-order are certainly the best players of the country. They are good players due to their skill and so they are doing well.”

For the time being he wants to keep scoring as much as it is possible. He had already scored two centuries and two ninety plus knocks, last of which –a 91 not out– helped Abahani beat Prime Doleshwar despite being reduced to 23-3.

“I cannot say that I am passing my best time. I have been playing for a long time so naturally my team does have some expectations about me. Experienced players are expected to be match winners,” he remarked.

“After playing for so long it is normal that if I am carrying some good form then I have to score bulk of the runs. Not every player does score in a tournament but those who are scoring need to carry on as some players might have some lean patch at any particular tournament. If we can score runs then it will help those players to regain their form.”

He knows at this point he can’t force his selection for the World Cup but he wished the team for the best.

“I think the team is selected keeping everything into account like such a big tournament as well as playing in England and all those things. I hope they perform at the right place and help Bangladesh earn success,” he concluded.
