8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge to be built in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, April 4, 2019 (BSS) – A dream of the people of southern part of the country would come true as the work for implementing the project of 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge is progressing fast.

The 998 meter long 10.3 metre wide bridge would be constructed at a cost of Taka 620 crore at Bekutia of Barisal-Khulna regional highway on the Kocha River with financial support of the China government, officials told BSS.

All preliminary works of the bridge including land acquisition, land and site development are nearing completion, deputy project manager and deputy divisional engineer Sheikh Nabil Hossain said.

Construction of the main bridge will begin soon and and project would be completed in June 2021, he said.

The bridge will end long sufferings of the local people bringing to an end of ferry services between Nokathi and Charkhali-Tagra and facilitate direct communication of Paira Port and Kuakata with the country’s largest land port Benapole and Mongla Sea Port.

Moreover the bridge will establish road communication of four upazilas with Pirojpur district town, making immense contribution to the development in the filed of communication and economy.

Deputy Commissioner of the district Abu Ali Md. Sazzad Hossain at function at his office today handed over the cheques of compensation among the affected people of the project which is being implemented under an agreement signed between Bangladesh and China in June 2017.

President of Pirojpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mashiur Rahman Maharaj said construction of the Betutia Bridge will bring major change in the road connectivity and economy of the region making contribution to improving living standard of the people.
