DHAKA, April 4, 2019 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud
Humayun has urged all concerned to work together to make the country’s film
industry commercially profitable and bring its lost glory back.

The industries minister came up with the call while addressing a seminar
on ‘The present state of the country’s film industry and way forward’ at
Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) here yesterday, marking the
National Film Day-2019, said an official release today.

Speaking as the chief guest he said as per the directives of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Industries Ministry has already declared the film
sector as an industry.

Following the existing policy, the Industries Ministry will provide all-
out support to the filmmakers in making cinemas, he said.

Noting that his ministry will distribute loans among the cinema hall
owners at lower interest rate for developing their movie centres, Humayun
asked the BFDC and the Cultural Affairs Ministry to formulate a policy in
this regard.

Chaired by BFDC managing director (acting) Lakhan Chandra Devnath, the
seminar was addressed, among others, by Deputy Minister for Cultural Affairs
KM Khalid, director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed and
president of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar.
