DHAKA, April 03, 2019 (BSS) – Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said Bangladesh and India would like to further advance the existing excellent bilateral relations between the two friendly neighboring countries.
“Currently, we have excellent bilateral relations between us.. We would like to advance it further,” he told the newsmen after his meeting with newly appointed Indian high commissioner to Dhaka Riva Ganguly at the foreign ministry here.
The foreign minister said ties between Dhaka and New Delhi will remain the same even if the Indian government is changed after the upcoming national election of India.
The Indian high commissioner told the reporters that she would like to further strengthen the Bangladesh-India relations in every sector.
She said the humanitarian support of India for Rohingyas will be continued.
Noting that today was her first meeting with Bangladesh foreign minister, the Indian envoy said they discussed various issues, including people to people contact, connectivity, power and energy cooperation and credit lines.
Meanwhile a press release from the foreign ministry here said during the meeting, the Bangladesh foreign minister welcomed the new Indian envoy here and termed the Bangladesh-India ties as historic.
Momen said the two neighboring countries resolved major disputes like land and maritime boundaries through holding dialogues. “These efforts can be identified as role models in the world,” he added.
Referring to his meeting with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj in Delhi at the joint consultation commission in February last, Momen expressed his hope that the Bangladesh-India ties will be deepened and warmer in the days to come.
Ganguly handed over a letter of Sushma to Momen, where the Indian foreign minister termed the Bangladesh-India bilateral relations as “truly golden chapter’ and said it has been possible due to statesmanship of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The partnership between India and Bangladesh is expanding day by day, she added.
