National Film Day today

DHAKA, April 3, 2019 (BSS)-The National Film Day-2019 is being observed today in a befitting manner under the auspices of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and the National Film Observance Committee.

To mark the day, Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) and the National Film Observance Committee have jointly undertaken an elaborate programme to observe the National Film Day-2019 at the BFDC.

In separate messages on the eve of the National Film Day, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted all artistes, technicians, directors, producers and others concerned.

They recalled that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, understanding the impact of films on the society, tabled a bill in the provincial assembly of erstwhile East Pakistan for the formation of Film Development Corporation (FDC) on April 3 in 1957 as the then Industries and Commerce Minister and in continuation to that FDC was established.

The President, in his message, said film is a powerful medium and its role is immense in creating awareness and development of society.

He said the government has implemented various programmes for the development of film. The government has declared the film as industry and modernized and expanded BFDC, he said, adding that it has implemented Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Film City (1st phase).

“I hope the filmmakers will issue these facilities and make more realistic and entertaining films reflecting the real life of the people,” said the President.

Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the Awami League government has implemented massive programmes for the development of film industry in the last nine years.

She said that the government is contemplating to set up modern and digital cinema halls. Construction of Bangabandhu Film City (1st phase) on 105 acres of land at Kabirpur in Gazipur district has been completed, she added.

She urged filmmakers to uphold the spirit of Liberation War through producing realistic movies and expressed her hope that the country’s films will play more effective roles in brightening the image of Bangladesh through making films against fundamentalism and superstition.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud is supposed to inaugurate the 2-day programme of the National Film Day as the chief guest at 9.30am today at BFDC.

Veteran actor Syed Hasan Imam is scheduled to preside over the programme.

Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Information Ministry Akbar Hossain Pathan Faruq and secretary of the Information Ministry Abdul Malek, among others, are supposed to present at the function.

April 3 is being observed as National Film Day every year since 2012.

The daylong programme will include rally, red carpet reception, inauguration of fair, exhibition of still photo and films, discussion and seminar on film.

On April 4, a cultural function will be held with the participation of various renowned cultural personalities followed by a laser show and fireworks exhibition at BFDC.

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has also organized film carnivals, seminars, film exhibitions, discussions, meet-ups and cultural programs on the occasion of the National Film Day from April 3-5.
