Bhutan PM due on April 12

DHAKA, April 2, 2019 (BSS) – Bhutanese Premier Lotay Tshering will arrive here on April 12 for a four-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to increase cooperation on trade, inland waterways, health and agriculture sector.

During the visit, the Bhutanese premier will attend a bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here on April 13, according to official sources.

After the meeting, a number of bilateral instruments regarding cooperation on inland waterways for cargo transportation, health and agriculture sectors are expected to be signed by the two sides, it added.

On the same day, Tshering will meet President Md Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban in the evening and after that attend a banquet to be hosted by the Bangladesh Prime Minister at Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister will begin his visit by paying tribute to liberation war martyrs at National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar and to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi on April 12.

On that first day, Foreign Minister Dr A K Abdul Momen will call on the Bhutanese premier at Hotel Intercontinental here where he will stay during the visit.

The Bhutanese premier is scheduled to hold a meeting with leaders of FBCCI on the same day.

On April 14, the first day of the Bengali New Year, he will attend a new year celebrating cultural function organised by Surer Dhara at Bangabandhu international Conference Centre in the capital.

On the same day, the Bhutanese Prime Minister, an alumnus of Mymensingh Medical College, will fly to Mymensingh to visit his alma mater. He will address a students’ gathering there.

Tshering will return to Dhaka on the same day and meet the commerce minister and health and family welfare minister separately in the afternoon.

He is also scheduled to visit Square Pharmaceuticals factory in Gazipur, Dharmarajika Buddhist Monastery Complex at Bashabo and Bhutan Embassy in the city.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister is scheduled to have breakfast with Bhutanese students and citizens living here before departing Dhaka on April 15 morning.
