Govt will examine if fire incidents were sabotage: Hanif

KUSHTIA, Apr 1, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) Acting General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif today said the government will examine the recent fire incidents in the capital to know whether those were merely accidents or acts of sabotage.

“Recently, infernos broke out in the city’s Banani FR Tower, DNCC market and other places. We cannot rule out the possibility of sabotage,” he told reporters here this afternoon.

Asked about the BNP’s claim that the arrest of FR Tower owner Tasvir Ul Islam was politically motivated one, the AL leader said BNP-Jamaat men, led by Begum Khaleda Zia, burnt innocent people alive in the name of movement. “And people do not forget their politics of killing,” he added.

“That’s why the government will examine the recent fire incidents to know whether those were accidents or sabotage,” he said.

Earlier, Hanif inaugurated a 14-day programme on the premises of Kushtia municipality, arranged marking the 150th anniversary of the municipality.

Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, deputy commissioner of Kushtia Md Aslam Hossain, Kustia zila AL president Sadar Uddin, senior vice-president Rabiul Alam and general secretary Asgar Ali, among others, spoke on the occasion with of Kushtia municipality mayor Anwar Ali in the chair.
