DHAKA, April 1, 2019 (BSS)- West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has postponed their ‘A’ team’s tour to Bangladesh due to unavoidable circumstances. The second string West Indian squad was expected to visit Bangladesh in June to play three four-day matches and five one-day games.
The WICB has recently informed BCB through a mail that they are not willing to visit Bangladesh as scheduled, said Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
The BCB CEO however said, “there is some uncertainty over the tour,” without elaborating the things further. He revealed that they have some limitation which barred them from visiting Bangladesh for the time being.
”There is some uncertainty [regarding the West Indies A team tour] because they have got some limitations,” Chowdhury said here today.
”They have got some internal problem and it is not wise on my part to disclose it. A board can face some kind of crisis at certain point of times and it can happen to any board and we should not judge them on this basis,” he added.
Even though Chowdhury refused to reveal the exact reason, A BCB source disclosed that WICB postponed the tour due to their financial crisis. On March 24, Ricky Skerritt, the former West Indies team manager, has been appointed president of Cricket West Indies as he acquired the required number of votes at the Annual General Meeting to beat Dave Cameron 8-4 votes.
Kishore Shallow also won his contest by the same margin to beat Emmanuel Nanthan to be appointed the vice president.
BCB official insisted that they are now planning to visit Sri Lanka in September.
“We have a reciprocal series of ‘A’ team with Sri Lanka, who had already played against us. Now we’ll go to Sri Lanka very soon,” Chowdhury informed.
According to BCB officials the High Performance team will tour in Sri Lanka in July or August and later the Bangladesh ‘A’ team will also travel to Sri Lanka in September to play the reciprocal series.
