Man to die for strangling wife

DHAKA, March 31, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today sentenced one person to
death for strangling his wife for dowry in 2015.

Dhaka 9th Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Sharif
Uddin pronounced the judgment in presence of convict Moshiur Rahman.

According to the case documents, Moshiur Rahman married Sonia Sultana,
sister of deputy inspector general of police Abdullahel Baki, in 2004.
Moshiur used to work in a garment factory at that time. Later, he got into
business and expanded it by taking money from his in-laws.

After launching business, he started demanding Taka 25 lakh more as dowry
from his in-laws. But Sonia’s family declined to give any more money. On July
26, 2015, Moshiur phoned Sonia’s siblings, saying she was seriously ill. When
they rushed her house, they found Sonia dead.

Sonia’s brother Baki filed the case against Moshiur on August 8, 2015.
Charge sheet was filed in the case on December 20, 2015. A total of 14
witnesses including Moshiur and Sonia’s son Nihal testified in the case.
