Drives to inspect buildings safety measures begin tomorrow: Rezaul

DHAKA, March 31, 2019 (BSS) – Public Works and Housing Minister SM Rezaul
Karim today said Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) would start drives to
inspect fire safety measures at buildings in the capital city.

During the 15-day drive, a total of 24 teams of RAJUK would identify the
buildings which do not meet fire safety standards, the minister said, issuing
a warning that the city development authority may demolish the buildings
which do not meet fire safety standards if necessary.

He said “In the first phase high rise buildings will be indentified that
do not have emergency exit, fire extinguishing system.. If these safety
measures are not found in these buildings, stern actions will be taken
against them as per rule,” said minister in a meeting at RAJUK Bhaban here.”

At the meeting, the present condition of high rise buildings in Dhaka city
and possible steps to be taken in this regard were discussed at the meeting.

Housing Secretary Shahid Ullah Khandker, Chief Engineer of Public Works
Department Md Shahat Hossain, Chairman of National Housing Authority Md
Rashidul Islam, Chief Architecture of Architect Department Kazi Golam Nasir,
RAJUK Chairman Abdur Rahman, among others, were present.
