COX’S BAZAR, March 31, 2019 (BSS) – Three suspected drug peddlers, including a woman, were killed in separate gunfights between them and the members of police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of today.

Police and BGB said the alleged drug peddlers were identified as Mahamudur Rahman, 28, Mohammad Absar, 25, and Romana Akhter, 22.

Pradip Kumar Das, the officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said a police team launched a drive in Moulbi Bazar Bridge area on information that a gunfight was taking place between two groups of yaba peddlers.

As the police reached the spot, the drug peddlers, sensing the police presence, opened fire triggering a gunfight in the early hours of today.

“Mahmudur and Absar received fatal injuries after the gunfight. They succumbed to their injuries at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital around 8:00am,” the OC added.

Six homemade guns and 20,000 yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.

Meanwhile, acting commander of Teknaf BGB-2 Shariful Islam Jammadder told BSS that a suspected female drug peddler was killed in an alleged gunfight with BGB at Omarkhali Point of Naf River in the same upazila early today.
