Check illegal fishing nets to develop fisheries: Ashraf
DHAKA, March 31, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Ashraf Ali Khan Khosru today stressed the need for elimination of illegal fishing nets from its production level to expedite development of the fisheries sector.
“We need to destroy all these illegal fishing nets from its production level for smooth development of country’s fisheries sector,” said the State Minister as the chief guest while addressing at the inaugural function of nine-storey Matsya Bhaban-2 at city’s Uttara.
Khosru said our indigenous fishes would one day be vanished like Thailand and Myanmar if we could not destroy the production of these illegal fishing nets.
Regarding revival of the nearly extinct 19 species of indigenous fishes by the scientists of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) and Department of Fisheries (DoF), the state minister expressed the hope that these fishes would be exported abroad.
Later, the state minister formally inaugurated the Matsya Bhaban-2 at Uttara. Dhaka divisional fisheries and Dhaka district fisheries offices will be operating from this building.
The Bhaban has been constructed on five-khata land at a cost of Taka 10.38 crore.
